Q: What is included in a GS Laboratories’ appraisal?

A: A GS Laboratories’ jewelry appraisal is an unbiased opinion as to the identity, composition, qualities and values associated with an item of jewelry, as described in an official appraisal document. A GS Laboratories’ appraisal includes a detailed description and digital photograph of the item of jewelry. The appraisal uses internationally recognized terminology and grading systems. Each GS Laboratories’ appraisal is prepared and signed by a fully certified gemologist.

Q: How often should I have my jewelry appraised?

A: Many insurance companies have their own guidelines for how current a jewelry appraisal needs to be for insurance purposes. Most companies advise that jewelry be reappraised every few years – please check with your insurance company for their recommendation.

Q: I have a GS Laboratories’ appraisal that I need to update. Can I request an update by mail or email?

A: In order to issue an updated appraisal, it is necessary for the item to be verified in- office. Please call one of our labs to arrange for an appointment.

Q: I would like to have my jewelry appraised, but I’m not located near your office locations. How can I have my jewelry appraised?

A: If you are unable to come to our office for an appraisal appointment, you may submit your jewelry via a courier service (i.e. Fedex or registered mail) or take to your local jeweler, who can submit it to our lab for appraisal. Please contact our office for more information.
